An exciting, engaging celebration of touring performing arts, Ontario Contact is a gathering of those working in the sector. This three-day conference is an opportunity for networking, sharing information and seeing the work of artists wishing to tour.
Produced by Ontario Presents, Ontario Contact engages over 500 artists, presenters, workshop leaders, and various government and arts service agencies in showcase performances, workshops, and an arts industry marketplace. It is our goal that Ontario Contact will continue to address the on going needs of Ontario’s cultural presenters, and assist local, national, and international artists and their agents to tour and perform for Ontario communities. The conference is working to revitalize the way we bring stakeholders together and therefore the juried showcases will be only one part of our showcasing approach in 2019.
There is a broad range of opportunities from small intimate venues to those of 2,000 seats. A significant number of the presenters are volunteers using a variety of venues from churches to theatres.
Showcases are 15 minutes long for music and young audience. Longer showcases will be considered for theatre and dance.
We expect that the artist will be prepared to showcase a performance as stated in the application. Any changes must be pre-approved prior to printing of our programme - August 1, 2019. The jury carefully considers the final applications and programming to give the best opportunity to all of the showcasing artists. Changes in format may not work to your benefit and may not be accommodated.
Ontario Contact will provide mics and a sound system appropriate to the venue. Back line will also be provided. Any additional requirements are at the discretion of Ontario Contact.
Supporting materials that are not available in an electronic format should be mailed to: Ontario Contact, c/o 563 Krug Street, Kitchener ON N2B 1L8
Ontario Contact determines which applications will be successful based on artistic quality, impact on the artist's career as well as impact on the audience, quality of marketing support and proven experience with touring. It is essential that the materials provided to the jury reflect the quality and impact of the artist's work. The juried showcases are only one part of the showcasing approach we are taking in 2019.
The jury is representative of the Ontario presenting community with representatives from various sizes of communities, and both broad and specific knowledge of various disciplines.
